ACEC Indiana’s Board of Directors serves as the policy-making body of the association, responsible for business affairs and guiding the organization toward its mission. ACEC Indiana represents over 120 engineering and associate firms throughout Indiana, encompassing over 6,000 employees. The Board works to advance strategic priorities, including advocacy for the engineering industry, leadership and workforce development, and providing critical business resources to member firms.
Board Roles
- Regular Member Director: 14 positions available for regular members.
- Associate Member Representative: 1 position available for associate members.
Term Length
- All directors serve three-year terms.
Qualities of a Good Candidate Candidates are evaluated based on a range of professional qualifications and association engagement:
- Professional Standing: Holding a Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly valued, but not required for board service. Only PEs are eligible for officer positions.
- Firm Involvement: Active participation in ACEC Indiana Committees.
- Industry Expertise: Experience within key sectors, including transportation, water, vertical construction, geotechnical and environmental.
- Association Support: Consistent attendance and support for programs such as the Engineering Excellence Awards, Engineering Leadership Program, networking events, continuing education programs and the Scholarship Golf Outing.
- Commitment to Advocacy: History of contributing to or soliciting for the ACEC Indiana and National PACs.
- Geographic Representation: Consideration is given to ensuring representation from across the state.
Board Member Responsibilities Directors are expected to fulfill the following duties:
- Association Representation: Represent the membership by "wearing the ACEC Indiana hat" when conducting association business.
- Policy & Strategy: Establish the policies governing the association and adhere to the Strategic Plan.
- Fiduciary Duty: Approve the operating budget, fulfill fiduciary responsibilities to the membership, and ensure proper discretion in the use of assets.
- Governance & Compliance: Assure legal compliance with association bylaws.
- Legislative Advocacy: Assist staff in local, state, and national legislative activities and support PAC fundraising efforts.
- Membership Growth: Identify and recruit new member firms.
- Committee Liaison: Serve as a liaison to a committee, connecting with the Chair to share board action items and report on committee progress.
Meeting and Time Commitment
- Board members are expected to attend 6 meetings regularly to fulfill their duties. Board meetings are typically held on a regular basis to discuss governance, strategy, and oversight of the association’s four-year strategic plan.
Nomination Process
- Interested individuals may nominate themselves or another ACEC Indiana member. All nominations will be reviewed by the nominating committee to ensure a diverse and capable board that reflects the technical and professional standards of the engineering community.
